We have a waiting room blood pressure monitor where patients can sit and take their own blood pressure reading to pass on to receptionists to be recorded for GP’s information.
This machine will help increase available nurse and doctors’ appointments as well as reduce waiting times.
This monitor is for adult use only.
Our practice nurses carry out most of the smear tests. These are usually taken during the nurses’ normal clinic times. Please note that mid-cycle (usually 14 days after your last period) is the best time to have your smear taken because a clearer background to the sample can be gained around this time.
If you do not wish to have a screening at this time, please contact the practice detailing your wishes and return to the surgery. You are always able to change this decision at any time.
These clinics are by appointment and are open to all diabetics for reviews and advice. The diabetic clinic is run on a Thursday morning with our diabetic trained nurse.
To enable us to accurately monitor your recent blood sugar levels you will also be required to book a fasting blood test (early appointment – no food – water only for 12 hours prior to test), with the blood nurse, at least two weeks before your diabetic review appointment.
Due to the new Department of Health Guidelines it is now necessary to test for microalbuminuria which requires an early morning urine sample to be taken on the morning of your blood test, and handed into reception on arrival, to be sent off for analysis. You will therefore need to collect a white topped specimen bottle before your blood appointment, so you can bring this with you on the day of blood test.
If you have any optician reports or have attended for either NHS or private Chiropody could you please bring a copy with you when you attend your appointment.
